There’s no denying that the Baby Shark song is quite the earworm. It probably doesn’t help that your little one loves listening to the song and doing the special dance on repeat. If your little guppy is the biggest Baby Shark fan out there, then a Baby Shark-themed birthday party is sure to be a splash. If you’re ready to dive in on planning the perfect party, head over to our Baby Shark party ideas. Once you’ve got all the party decorations, activities and favors sorted, it’s time to focus on the sweet treat.
Fancy bakery cakes can cost a pretty penny and they tend to include that not so appealing fondant as decoration. Since you’re scraping it off anyway, go a more cost-effective semi-homemade approach and create your own cake decorations! See how to turn store-bought cake mix, icing and craft foam into a cake based on the most viral song, Baby Shark! We included a free printable template and step by step guide to create your own Baby Shark Cake, doo doo doo doo.
Our resident party stylist and Mommy Shark, Tara created this cake transformation. See what other sweet ideas she’s cooking up on her blog, Spot of Tea Designs.
Baby Shark Cake Topper Supplies
You will need:
- Yellow and White Icing
- Wilton Tip #105 and piping bags
- Craft foam (white, yellow, black, pink, red, brown)
- Wax paper
- Lollipop sticks
- Hot Glue
- Glue Stick
- Baby Shark Cake Template PDF
First, let’s create the topper. Print the Baby Shark Cake Template and cut out all the shapes.
Trace onto craft foam and cut out each shape.
Layer and adhere the eye and mouth shapes together using a glue stick.
Lay these shapes onto wax paper and cut out the coordinating shape.
Adhere these onto the back of the craft foam to make the pieces food safe to touch your cake. (Our gluestick rubs on in purple, as seen on this photo, but dries clear!)
Adhere the fin pieces on lollipop sticks. Set these aside to dry.
Put a coupler at the bottom of an icing bag and add tip #105. Fill with white icing. Pipe the bottom of the cake with white icing.
Fill a second bag with yellow icing and put tip #105 on the end. Pipe the rest of the cake with yellow icing. This will be the base of your Baby Shark Cake.
To complete, insert the lollipop sticks into the cake to bring Baby Shark to life!
Place this beautifully decorated cake onto your dessert table or as the centerpiece of the eating table when singing the famous birthday song! Please make sure to remove all the craft foam accessories before cutting and serving the cake.
