Fans love waving a big foam finger to support their favorite team at live games. Well, we thought it would be a great way to cheer on the guest of honor at a basketball birthday party (or any sports-themed celebration). Create a custom DIY foam finger to display or use as a photo prop during the party. Personalize your foam finger decorations with the name of the game V.I.P. and their age instead of “We’re #1” to make sure them feel extra special. DIY Foam Finger Party Decoration Instructions
Download and print out the DIY foam finger centerpiece template. This prints larger on (2) 8.5 x 11 sheets so you’ll need to line up and tape your template together to make it true to size.
Lay the template onto the black foam sheet. Trace and cut out the shape. If you plan to use this as a centerpiece where people will see both sides, consider cutting out 2 foam shapes for a later step.
Paint (4) wood dowels with white acrylic paint. Tip: stick in a scrap piece of foam in order to paint all sides.
If you don’t have a cutting machine, you can use the PDF as a template to trace out the outline, fingernail and knuckles onto white cardstock paper. Cut out the pieces and glue them onto the foam finger shape.
Print your personalized message and repeat the tracing, cutting and gluing process to customize the foam finger.
If you have a cutting machine, upload our Vinyl shapes SVG file to your cutting machine software. Add the birthday boy’s name and age and the center to personalize for your party. Our party shows “Tony is #8” in this area.
Weed your vinyl to remove any access material from the design. Again, in order to put onto this single 12×12” sheet, we pieced this design together in two parts.
Separate out these parts and apply them to the foam finger shape.
Now, create 2 foam basketballs for additional accents in this centerpiece. Trace a small plate on orange foam. Cut out the black accents and apply to the circle shape. Tip: it helps to use transfer tape and a scrapper tool to line it up perfectly.
Once the wood dowels are dry, tape the foam shapes using duct tape. Attach the coordinating piece of foam to the back using white glue around the edges. This will cover the duct-taped stick if these are being used as a centerpiece at a table with guests on both sides.
Stick these pieces into tin buckets filled with foam and paper shred. Put them on display at center court during your basketball party!
