- Terra Cotta Pot
- Foam Pipe insulation (or Pool Noodle, if in season!)
- Green Fabric
- Purple, blue and black acrylic paint
- Safety pins
- Hot Glue
- Cactus template printable
This design is all inspired by the cute cactus seen on the beverage napkins from this Selfie Celebration line.
First, paint your flower pot with purple and blue acrylic paint.
Paint toothpicks with black acrylic paint.
Tip: Insert the toothpicks into a piece of Styrofoam so you can easily paint them. These will be stuck into a foam base at a later step so it’s ok that you don’t paint the ends that are stuck inside.
Fold a long piece of green fabric in half.
Fold the foam insulation in half and place on the green fabric with both folded ends on the same side.
Use chalk to create a rough outline of this shape, giving about an inch margin around it.
Use safety pins along the chalk line to attach the two pieces of green fabric together.
Trim the excess fabric. (If you have the time or the energy go ahead and use a needle and thread or sewing machine to close this up instead of pins!)
Turn the pinned fabric shape inside out to create the cactus shape.
Insert the faux cactus into the painted pot.
Insert the painted black spines into the foam cactus.
Cut out the printable shapes from the template and use hot glue to secure them onto the cactus.
Add the “Free Birthday Hugs” printable right on the front.
Place this quirky faux plant as the centerpiece or as an accessory on the dessert table at your tween’s Selfie Celebration birthday party that perfectly matches the #fun Selfie Celebration line of supplies!
