Independence day is almost here!! Before you break out the fireworks and sparklers, let’s add a couple more finishing touches to our decor. We bring you our third DIY Patriotic Decorations post from our series. If you missed our previous posts you can check them out here: Patriotic pinwheels and Flag wreath.
Let’s turn our attention to the indoors. When decorating for any holiday, don’t forget about your soft furniture pieces. The couch is a perfect spot for holiday décor to land and to embellish. These Bandana Pillows add a touch of patriotic flair without being too over-thematic.
Basic sewing supplies are needed for this project but you could use fusible web tape for a no-sew option. Also, if you wanted, you could skip the bandana flap. The no-flap option only requires two bandanas per pillow.
The first step is to cut your flap bandana in half diagonally. Next, cut your base bandanas to fit the pillow forms. Once the pillow bases are cut to size, pin one flap half to the front pillow base only, both right sides up.
Turn front pillow base over and trim flap fabric even with pillow base edges.
Pin front and back bases together, with the right sides of the fabric facing each other. Machine stitch along three sides. Insert pillow form and hand-stitch pillow cover closed.
TIP: When you purchase pillow forms for this project, buy two different sizes for added variety.
May these projects inspire you to craft some fun and functional patriotic home decor. And may you enjoy your time this summer celebrating our nation’s history and those who have given of themselves to ensure our liberties and freedoms!
