- (2) 36” wood dowels
- (1) 28” wood dowels
- (1) Wood plank
- 1 yard of fabric
- Power drill
- Wood Glue
- Acrylic paint
Drill a hole into the wood plank base which is the size of the center dowel. Apply wood glue in the hole to secure dowel in place. Allow to dry.
Use small nail to secure cross beams on the center dowel.
Paint dowels and base with brown and black acrylic paint.
Tip: it’s okay to not fully cover! Use a dry brushing technique to make it inconsistent for a more “aged” look.
Once dry, wrap twine around the crossbars to help secure and hide the nail heads.
Next you’ll need to cut the fabric to size and hang it on the mast. You may want to take it outside and get it a little dirty so it’s not so pristine and clean, as no pirate ship ever was! Cut fabric to size. Tip: Sometimes it’s easier to rip fabric than to cut it and it creates a rough, frayed look!
Cut small holes in the fabric and use twine to secure it to the cross bars.
Your pirate ship mast party accessory is complete! Decorate with a “NEVER SAY DIE” banner made of cardstock if you plan to have it as table décor at a Goonies party!
