Follow the steps below, and you’ll be well on your way to having an Avengers birthday party that your superhero won’t soon forget!

Thor Hand Step 01

Making the Platform

Step 1. Starting with the left, short edge of your cardboard, draw a line 1” from the edge. Next, draw a line 2” from the first line, as shown.

Step 2. Use the craft knife and the ruler score the cardboard on the lines, just enough to fold the cardboard. DO NOT cut all the way through.

Step 3. The cardboard should be able to fold and tuck under, as shown.

Step 4. Repeat steps 1-3 on the right side. You should now have a platform that is approximately 2” deep. You can tape the folded edges together with a little masking tape to make it more secure.

Step 5. Trace around the bottom of the Thor Hammer on the left side of the platform, centered front to back and about 2” in from the left side.

Step 6. Divide the traced circle into approximately 8 parts (like a pizza), use the craft knife to cut the lines. Leave the tabs in tact, they will help secure the hammer to the platform in a later step.

Step 7. Spray paint the platform, using the stone texture paint. Let dry.

Making the Hand

Step 8. Follow these instructions to make a masking tape hand. When making the hand, bend the fingers forward to resemble an open fist. After cutting and removing the tape from your model’s hand, don’t tape it back together.

Step 9. Place the wrist around an upside down party cup. Tape the wrist to the cup, this will create a nice, strong base for the hand.

Step 10. Stuff the hand with crinkled up newspaper, to provide extra support.

Step 11. Tape the hand closed. Use lots of small pieces of tape, the extra tape will add support and smaller pieces will keep the hand from getting too bulky. Paint the hand skin tone and let dry.

Thor Hand Step 04

Step 12. Download and print this Gauntlet template. Trace “Gaunlet-1” onto the red craft foam. The template might need to be adjusted slightly. Test the template by wrapping it on the completed hand to make sure it’s large enough. Adjust as needed, by making it larger or smaller.

Step 13. Trace the “Gauntlet-2” template on the glittery black foam. Cut out and attach to the red foam.

Step 14. Trace the remaining gauntlet pieces on the silver and black foam and attach to finish the gauntlet, as shown.

Step 15. Wrap the gauntlet around the hand and hot glue it closed.

Thor Hand Step 05

Step 16. Place the handle of the hammer through the hole in the platform, so that it sits at an angle. The cut tabs from the previous step should be facing up. The hammer should be mostly supported on it’s own.

Step 17. Place the hand on the platform, so that it looks like it’s holding the hammer. You can hot glue the base of the hand to the base. It’s okay if there are any gaps between the hand and the platform.

Step 18. Use the spiderwebbing to wrap around the platform and hand if necessary. The spiderwebbing has 2 purposes.

It will look like clouds, and will cover the opening around the platform and hide any imperfections where the hand and hammer attach to the platform.
