The world of Dr. Seuss is full of imaginative characters and landscapes and every story he wrote weaves a valuable lesson for young and old alike. Stories about Sneetches, Wickershams, Whos, and Fuddnuddlers, just to name a few, but some characters stand out in our memories because they stood for something big. Like The Lorax. The fuzzy little orange environmentalist, taught us all to “speak for the trees, for the trees have no tongues.” This allegorical tale of what might happen in a world under the influence of powerful and greedy corporations inspires all of us to “care a whole awful lot.”
So we thought it appropriate to bring a little bit of Truffula Forest inside for our Dr. Seuss birthday party. Bring in some color, height and texture to your table display by creating your own Truffula trees. A tissue paper pom pom, pool noodle and metal bucket can become a colorful forest for your Dr. Seuss party backdrop.

- Tissue paper pom poms
- Metal bucket
- Wooden dowel
- Small scrap of wood
- Pool noodle
- Crepe paper streamer
- Serrated knife or saw
- Sand or rocks (as weights)
Open your tissue paper pom pom kit and puff up the flower.
Cut a small scrap of wood to fit the bottom of the bucket. Drill a hole in the wood. This will help to create a stand for your wood dowel. No power tools? You could use a block of floral foam as an alternate for the base.
Insert the wood dowel into the hole and place the stand into the metal bucket.
Cover the wood dowel with the pool noodle and use a serrated knife or saw to cut to size.
Wrap the crepe paper streamer around the pool noodle, taping as you go, to create a the striped trunks of the Truffula trees.
Top the pool noodle with the tissue paper pom pom to create the top of the Lorax Tree.
Display these DIY Lorax trees on your food table or as centerpieces at your Dr. Seuss party!
