- Stiff felt: red and white
- Red yarn
- Elastic cording
- Pom pom maker (optional)
- Glue gun
- Small hole punch (or large needle)
- Printed hat template
Cut hat from white and red felt using the hat template found HERE.
Cut red stripe from red hat piece. Our strip is about 1 ¼” in width. Glue stripe to white hat base along the bottom edge.
TIP: It’s easier to start with the entire hat rather than trying to cut the stripe from scratch. The edges will match up better.
Glue hat together then snip approximately 1” off the top.
TIP: Start by gluing the bottom corners together. This adhesion will give the hat some stability and make it easier to finish gluing the top portion.
Make pom pom topper and glue to hat. We used a pom pom maker and our finished pom measures about 2 ½”.
If you don’t have a pom pom maker, this tutorial from Red Ted Art shows you how to use cardboard to create a perfect pom. There are other methods out there just- you could use a fork or even your own hand.
Punch two holes on opposite sides of the hat. Cut an 18” length of elastic cording. Run one end of the cording through the hole and tie in a square knot. Repeat on the other side.
TIP: If you don’t have a small hole punch, use a large-eyed needle to poke and pull cording through hat base.
This DIY party hat is the perfect way to have everyone get into character for a Waldo themed party.
