We’re all about drama-free party planning so you know there will be no llama drama today. Llamas are awesome, so why wouldn’t you want to throw a llama party to celebrate a birthday. Our llama party supplies are just as cute as llamas are in real life. And because llamas are confirmed to be real, we think that llamas are the new unicorns. We’re still holding out hope for discovering a unicorn, but in the meantime, we’re keeping the party going.
Llamas are sweet animals. With their long necks and curly hair, you can’t help but fall in love with them. And that’s why we’re seeing so much llama love trending!
Follow along with the steps below to bring the cartoon llamas from our cute, new party supplies to life! These llama cookies are the perfect sweet treats to compliment a Llama Birthday Party. Or slip them into a favor bag to give your guests a take home favor that looks as good as it tastes.

Decorated Llama Cookies
Before you get started you’ll need to bake some sugar cookies and make the icing. Check out this post with recipes and instructions to get started.
- Baked llama and cactus sugar cookies
- Royal Icing in piping bags
- Royal icing colors needed: White, Black, Pink plus any other colors you would like to incorporate for designs.
- Lemon Extract
- Wilton paint brush
Make sugar cookie dough and use a llama cookie cutter to cut out the shape and bake!
Using white icing with flooding consistency, fill the entire shape of the llama cookie and let dry completely. Learn how to make royal icing here.
Using a star tip, swirl some white icing in between the ears and on tail to give the llama some hair. The icing will need to be somewhat stiff in order to keep the shape and details.
Use any color icing with flood or 15 second consistency and fill in the saddle. Start with making a “U” shape under the back of the llama, closing in the top and fill it in. Let dry completely before adding any designs.
Use black icing and pipe on the eyes, eyelashes, nose and mouth. Be creative and pipe on fun designs onto the saddle. Use different colors, zigzags, lines, circles, and more! When mixing the icing, only prepare a small amount for each desired color, it will go a long way when decorating.
Next, you’ll want to mix pink gel icing with lemon extract. Using lemon extract is better than using water to paint onto dry icing – if you use water, you risk ruining the icing! Lemon extract will dry quickly and won’t penetrate the icing like how water would. Use cookie decorating brushes and paint rosy cheeks onto the llama face. Remember, a little goes a long way, so dip your brush into the pink lemon extract, dab lightly on a paper towel, and apply to the cheeks.
Pile them onto a plate or package them up when completely dry!
Decorated Cactus Cookies
To go along with the fun llama cookies, make more sugar cookie dough and use a cactus cookie cutter to cut out the shape and bake!
Use green icing with flood consistency and fill the entire cookie. Let the icing dry.
Add light green icing with stiff consistency and add random lines onto the cactus.
Using a star tip and pink icing with stiff consistency, pipe little flowers onto the cactus.
If you want more detail, add little yellow or black dots to the middle of the flowers. Let dry and package!
Treat your guests to some sweet llama cookies at your drama-free llama party!
