Mardi Gras is just a few days away, so get your beads ready and your glitter prepared! Otherwise known as Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras is the celebration of the end of the Carnival season and the beginning of Lent, where everyone prepares for the fasting season by eating rich foods and partying the night away. In the United States, it’s celebrated mostly in the south, around Louisiana, but the entire country knows the tradition. This Carnival season, you can get your green, gold, and purple on with a creative craft that brings out the glittering gold in your house!

Everyone knows crafting can be a pain sometimes, and we’re always looking for an easier way to DIY our lives. Finding a shortcut, while crafting, is always a win-win situation. That’s why Wholesale Party Supplies is here to help! Follow along as we show you how to transform an already glamorous Mardi Gras hat into an even more stunning and glitzy wreath.

Mardi Gras DIY Wreath Supplies

Gather What You Need:

  • Mardi Gras Glitz and Glam Hat
  • 42” Large Mardi Gras Necklace
  • Sequin Mardi Gras Masks
  • LOW-TEMP glue gun (a high-temp glue gun will melt the plastic beads)
  • Scissors
  • Floral wire
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Monofilament and large embroidery needle (if needed)
  • Ribbon for hanging (if desired)

Mardi Gras DIY Wreath Step 1

Remove inside section of the hat, leaving just the brim.

Preparing the beads

Unstring ball beads. Reserve string for use in next two steps.

Mardi Gras DIY Wreath Floral Wire Needle

Make a threading “needle” from floral wire by bending a small loop at one end of wire. Thread necklace string through loop.

Mardi Gras DIY Wreath Stringing the Beads

Re-string ball beads and tie off ends when at desired length.

Mardi Gras DIY Wreath Adding the Beads

Glue ball beads to hat brim. TIP: if glue is not strong enough to fully secure beads to brim, sew necklace to hat using monofilament and a large embroidery needle.

Mardi Gras DIY Wreath Adding the Masks

Remove strings from masks and glue to brim under large ball beads.
