DIY Nightmare Before Christmas Tree

At Wholesale Party Supplies, we believe that thematic Halloween parties are that much more fun to put together and attend. So for all of you Tim Burton fans, this DIY Jack Skellington Centerpiece is for you. Coupling Jack’s iconic face with Mr. Burton’s infamous black and white stripes gives this tabletop staple a party-stopping “wow” factor.

Let’s begin by crafting the Jack ornaments. All the supplies needed are found at a local crafts store. Look for the clear ball ornaments in the glass container section.

-Glass ornaments
-Black paint pen
-White acrylic paint
-Paper towel

Remove the metal toppers from the ornaments. Fill with paint about 1/3 full. Cover opening with layered paper towel and shake the ball until the inside is completely covered with paint.

Once the inside is fully coated with paint, invert the ball into the paint bottle and allow the excessive paint to drain out.

Now comes the really fun part of the process … adding the faces. Use a paint pen for this step. It’s the easiest to manage and provides great opaque coverage. A quick internet search offers a myriad of Jack’s facial expressions to use as inspiration.

Striped ribbon tied in a simple square knot provides the ornaments with impactful hangers.

One of Jack’s prominent wardrobe features is his exaggerated spikey bow tie. We used stripped ribbon to both mimic Jack’s dapper ascot as well as to further the Burton-esque feel of the centerpiece.

These “bow ties” are simply made from gathered looped ribbon and are attached using standard floral wire. TIP: No floral wire on hand? No problem. Just use leftover twist ties.

A sparsely-branched black tinsel tree is the perfect base for this project and Black Gauze makes for an easy and effective tree skirt.

Added sparkle and filler come from draping Flapper Beads among the branches.
