Paper chains from your elementary school days are back and decorating walls everywhere. Minimal supplies and ease of construction make this on-trend project a perfect fit for party décor. We’ve given our mural a Halloween theme, but you can easily adapt it to any party motif. Keep in mind though, simple shapes are best … definitely a case in which less is more. This decoration will make a bold addition to your autumnal aesthetic or it would look great as a buffet table backdrop during your Halloween party festivities.
Follow along with the steps below to see how to build your masterpiece. It’s a simple process but can take a good amount of time, so if you like to keep your hands busy while binging on Halloween movies this project is perfect. Prepare your strips of paper and get ready to glue.

Paper Chain Pumpkin Assembly Instructions
STEP ONE: Hot glue caps to dowel ends. Spray paint rod and allow to dry.
STEP TWO: Measure and mark ½” along one edge of the cardstock. Cut strips measuring 1 ½” w x 8” h, keeping the marked line at the top of strips.
STEP THREE: Using pattern as a guide, start linking paper strips together in vertical rows. Make sure to number each strip.
STEP FOUR: Slip chain rows on to the rod in numerical order. Position as needed and use a dab of hot glue to secure to the rod.
STEP FIVE: Adjust any loops that need manipulating so that horizontal rows are even. You can do this by squishing the loops to make them taller or wider.
STEP SIX: Use monofilament or twine to hang. Use this wall hanging to make a big bold statement at your Halloween party buffet table.
