“2020” Cookie Tutorial
Start off with the baked square sugar cookie. For this cookie, we’ll want a more geometrical shape.
With black icing pipe a straight line along the middle of each edge of the cookie. Next, you’ll create three “steps” until you connect each line. Once all lines are connected, fill the cookie with the black icing.
Once the black icing is dry, use your toothpick or scribe to lightly etch in “2020.” This will help guide you when piping the year in.
Next, using the yellow icing to pipe 2020 onto the cookie following your guide.
Let’s add some fun designs. In the blank corners of the cookie, add yellow teardrop-shaped icing. Simply begin by piping a small dot and slightly drag it inward.
Now that the “2020” is a little more dried, add extra yellow lines to the numbers to add more detail.
Next, using the yellow icing, outline your geometric shape twice. Make sure to leave a bit of black around the edges.
Now, let’s add more fun detailing on the cookie! You can add squiggly lines or more teardrop shapes!
Next, mix the gold luster dust with a little bit of lemon extract.
Take your small paintbrush and paint the gold mix onto all the yellow lines of the cookie.
Tip: Be careful with this step, the lines are small, and the black background icing will show any gold dust that is accidentally painted on!
“Happy New Year” Cookie Tutorial
Starting off with the baked square cookie, flood the entire cookie with black royal icing.
Once the black background is dry, use your scribe to lightly etch in “Happy New Year” onto the middle of the cookie.
Using the yellow royal icing, pipe over your guide of “Happy New Year.”
Let’s add some teardrop shapes to the corner of each cookie. Simply begin by piping a small dot and slightly drag it out.
At the bottom of the teardrop shape, add a small square.
Next, pipe lines connecting the small squares.
Now, remember those teardrop shapes we piped? Let’s add more in-between the ones we piped. This gives the design more of a fan/deco design. Add a small line to outline the inside of the corner squares.
Next, let’s add some triangular shapes onto the middle sides of each cookie. Make sure to outline that triangle shape with icing as well.
Mix some lemon extract with the gold luster dust.
Using a small tip brush, carefully paint the gold onto the yellow icing. Be careful to not get it onto the black icing.
Enjoy your new year! Good health and properity to you and yours!
