With just a few days until the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and only a couple more before Christmas, Wholesale Party Supplies has the perfect way to celebrate both: pies!
This Christmas, you can bake your way to to a very special, totally not suspicious at all holiday dinner party with Lando Pie-rissian. This pie was prepared by our friend Jessica Leigh Clark-Bojin.
Ingredients and Supplies
For this project you will need:
- Pre-fab pie shell (or your own from scratch)
- Pre-fab roll out pie crust (or your own from scratch)
- Can of pie filling (or your own from scratch)
- Pasteurized egg whites
- Vanilla extract
- Brown food colouring
- Leaf Cookie Cutter
- Sharp knife
- Parchment Paper
- Small mixing bowls
- Pastry Brush
- Cutting Board
- Exacto Knife
- Computer + Image editing software
To begin this pie design you will first need to create a custom stencil out of parchment paper. Begin by finding a high resolution file of your favourite Lando Calrissian photo and open it in Photoshop. Draw an 8” circle around the figure (or whatever the diameter of your pie pan is) then select image -> adjustments -> threshold to convert the photo to black and white line art.
Go in by hand and smooth out the lines, removing any “islands” that will prevent the image from working as a stencil. Then hold your parchment sheet up to the screen and carefully trace all the black areas with a dull pencil. On a second sheet of parchment, trace only the outside contours of the head.
Cut out the head contour sheet of parchment with your scissors, and set aside. Then using your exacto knife and cutting board, carefully cut out all of the positive areas of the second sheet of parchment paper.
Unroll your dough on a well floured surface and with a sharp knife, trace around the head contour parchment sheet.
Mix some brown food coloring, vanilla and egg white together in a bowl, and use a pastry brush to paint a thin layer on the head outline.
Allow the egg white mixture to dry on the dough until it is tacky to the touch (not wet) then place your second parchment stencil on the dough and tap down.
Sprinkle cinnamon over the figure and tap down with your fingers, being careful to brush away any loose powder. Let set for two minutes.
Peel the parchment stencil off, then using a clean knife touch up any areas with stray powder.
Carefully transplant the figure to the top of your pie, and finish off with some leaf cut outs and an egg white wash on the trim. Bake at 400 for 45 minutes, or until crust golden brown and filling bubbling.
