Step One:
Cut out the basic shapes. Using an image of R2 as a reference, cut out the basic body shape and legs. Or are they arms? Whatever they are, cut them out.

Step Two:

Paste the shapes together. Using pasteurized egg white as a paste, attached the legs to the body with a food safe brush.

Step Three:
Carve the details and transfer to pie. With a sharp knife, fondant sculpting tools and your hands, add R2’s details, being careful not to cut all the way through your dough. When you are finished, transfer the figure to your pie bottom and give the crust a light egg white wash.

Step Four:
Color wash and add leaves. To ensure that R2’s details really pop, wash the figure with some vanilla extract. Then finish off the crust with some leaf details.

Pop the whole shebang in the oven at 400 degrees for 45 minutes, or until golden brown with bubbling filling.

Step Five:
Add the candy details. Make sure the pie has had time to completely cool, then add your candy details. Use the fondant glue to adhere the “lights” to the licorice string and hold in place while it sets.

Et voila! This is indeed the droid you are looking for!
